Hobbies and Interests on a CV

hobbies and interests on a CV Early Career

Including your hobbies and interests on a CV can prove useful, particularly if you are starting out your career or applying for a junior level position. If you have no or little experience, the inclusion of hobbies and interests on a CV gives the employer an insight of you as a person. It can also demonstrate your ability to work within or lead teams, build relationships, use creative thinking, adopt positions of responsibility, etc.

As well as listing hobbies and interests on a CV, don’t forget to list extra-curricular activities if you’re at college or university, particularly if they will help to […]

By |

What is the difference between Etc. and Et al.? etc et al

Etcetera / Etc.

Etcetera ( et = and, cetera = the rest) is most commonly abbreviated to Etc.

Etc. is a Latin expression, which means ‘and other things’, ‘and so on’ or ‘and so forth’.  It is generally used when you’re writing a list of things or a series of descriptions.

For example: I went to the shop and bought bacon, eggs, sausages, beans, etc. for a fried breakfast.  Here the etc. indicates you bought other items typically associated with a full English breakfast.

When using the phrase etc. in a list it is preceded by a comma.

JUST FOR FUN: Etc. = End of Thinking Capacity!

Et al.

Should i staple CV pages together?Customer question: “Should I staple cv pages together?”

If you CV is more than one page long then yes, you should staple CV pages together.  The separate sheets of paper should be stapled using a single staple in the top left-hand corner of the paper. I know this may sound OTT but try to make sure the staple is straight whether you chose to staple on the diagonal or horizontal, it is the little things that make all the difference.

Never use a paper clip, staple CV pages.  Don’t send in separate sheets of paper when you apply for jobs because you run the risk of […]
