5 Essential Tips to Improve your Linkedin Profile
Presenting a strong and complete profile on Linkedin is essential if you are looking for a new job, it’s your online CV. Millions of people are on Linkedin, including recruiters, headhunters and hiring managers so make sure your Linkedin profile is full of facts about your education and work experience to date. Make sure you have covered all bases using our Linkedin profile checklist.
At the very least, you should…
1. Complete Your Linkedin Profile Summary
Ensure your Linkedin profile is complete. You should write a short paragraph outlining your key skills and achievements to immediately capture the reader’s attention and encourage them to read the rest of your profile.
2. Fill Out Your Career History
You must include dates, your job title and the name of the company at the very least. To optimise your LinkedIn profile, I recommend you use bullet point statements to outline role responsibilities and achievements. Demonstrate a clear career path, preferably without gaps.
3. Get Connected
One of the best things about Linkedin is the ability to connect to friends and work colleagues, past and present. The more connections you have, the greater your reach and the more likely you are to connect with someone looking for an employee with your skill set. Spending time widening your network and increasing your connections shouldn’t be overlooked, it’s important to get your Linkedin profile out there.
4. Display a Professional Picture
Linkedin isn’t Facebook or Instagram so make sure your photograph is professional and not a crappy snapshot. Ideally, you should upload a headshot of yourself in work attire, looking smart and well-groomed, taken against a light-coloured background. Don’t upload group pictures or a picture of you with someone else cropped off, it looks sloppy.
5. Aim to Reach ‘All-Star’ Status
Too many people don’t take full advantage of the numerous categories on Linkedin profils, they bypass them because they can’t be bothered to fill them out. Having a complete Linkedin profile and a good number of connections should reward your with ‘all-star’ status, which is the highest level you can currently attain on Linkedin.
